The documentary film "The World of Multiculturalism" will be screened. After the screening, there will be a talk ・ discussion by expert Yukio Zengen on the film's themes of "diversity" and "multiculturalism".

Citizen's Screening of Sodegaura City's citizen's cooperative project.　
In recent years, the number of residents with foreign roots has been increasing in Sodegaura City due to various reasons （ According to the 2022 city survey, there are about 1,500 applicable persons ）. With this increase, the need for Japanese language education and cultural understanding studies in school education and the workplace is growing, and it is becoming increasingly important for citizens to deeply understand and think about multicultural ・ diversity.
The film "School of Babel" documents the educational practices of a school in France, a country with many immigrants. Through this film, we will learn （ what language and cultural differences ） can create, including the light and dark sides.
After the screening, we will incorporate a discussion with a specialist in multicultural education to learn about examples of practice in Japan and to reconsider how each of us should deal with multiculturalism as we envision it in the future.

[Synopsis of "School of Babel"]
Ireland, Senegal, Brazil, Morocco, China.... Children between the ages of 11 and 15 from all over the world have come to France. They will spend a year together in the same adapted class at a junior high school in Paris. 24 students, 20 nationalities... A multicultural school that is a microcosm of the world. In this multicultural class that is a microcosm of the world, they show us their innocence, enthusiasm, and worries as teenagers just starting their new life in France. Will they be able to overcome the differences in religion and nationality and develop friendships? This film betrays such preconceptions in a good way and shows us hope for the future.

◆Special Lecturer ： Mr. Yukio Zengen （ Mr. Yukio Yoshimoto ） Lecturer at Mejiro University ・ Born in 1950 ・ He has been involved in many Japanese language classes for children with foreign roots, including the Japanese class at Kasai Elementary School in Edogawa, Tokyo. He has written many books, including "Children in Japanese Language Class （ (co-authored ）)" published by Shakai Hyoronsha, "Children Across Borders （ (co-authored ）)" published by Shakai Hyoronsha, and "Hontou ne, bully dakai yo yo yo" published by Poplar Publishing. He will talk about his own experiences, the actual situation and prospects of multicultural education in Japan, future possibilities for Sodegaura City, and conduct QA with participants.
We are planning various screenings in 2024 ！
We are also looking for volunteer members （ junior high school students and older ） to make screenings together for multi-generational exchange in planning and operation.
